The Padmanabhaswami Treasure

1. King Marthanda Varma usurped the crown from his King Uncle’s son, slaughtering the entire lot including the Nair chieftains who opposed it. The cruelty to the women folk was inhuman. This created extreme public anger against him. To continue would be risky.

2. He suddenly gifted the kingdom to Padmanabha, and told the people that it is the deity's crown and country now; so fight it at your own peril. The brilliant political trick paid off.

3. The treasure consists of plunders from conquered small nearby kingdoms, wealth entrusted for safe keeping by kings and Malabar people fleeing from Tippu, confiscations from enemies of the kings etc. It is not gifts to god by devotees.

4. The Royalty refused to sign the Accession unless they were allowed to keep the Temple as private property [among other real estate, aeroplane etc etc etc]. This was because their private get-away money was stored in the Temple. Duly influenced, VP Menon let them keep it all.

5. The time of the Accession was the time when the Royalty had been shooting people down for about 16 years under Sir. CP's Divanship. Understandably, the people would have shot them all after Independence. They used the sword on Sir. CP, though.

6. The Padmanabha treasure thus has nothing divine about it. It was the Royalty’s slush get-away money. It has blood on it. Only what is left of it after private utilisation through the years, is now being discovered.

WHAT TO DO WITH THE PADMANABHA TREASURES

A ‘rationalist’ of the conservative genre, opined on TV tonight that the wealth is the people’s and not of the Temple or the Royalty. It should therefore, be converted into currency and utilised to uplift the poor, to raise the BPL folks higher, and for their education and health care. Mr. P.J.Cherian of the Pattanam excavation also endorsed his views. I pity their intelligence, if any.

Churches and mosques also have such hidden treasure, if not already stolen by the Committees. If the Supreme Court or any government tries to excavate them, they would feel the real heat.

Left to myself, I find that the antique value of the stuff can never be estimated nor confirmed. It should therefore be converted into a highly secure Museum which might in time, become the greatest in the world. [I agree that valuables from Trivandrum museum are regularly pilfered.]

However, this is not likely to happen. Sonia Gandhi’s family runs an Indian antique shop in Italy. Subramanian Swami has spoken of it. Stolen antiques from Indian temples used to be smuggled out of India to Italy with the help of the LTTE.

As soon as the first UPA government took charge, the Italian PM was one of the first visitors to India. 15 agreements were signed without much publicity. One of the agreements stipulated that Italian companies be ‘consulted’ and allowed to manage all Indian archeological sites and antique stuff. [Another was to contract the entire Chandrayaan to Italian companies]. Sooner or later therefore, the Italians might step in in the matter of the Padmanabha treasures. If Oommen Chandy plays along, he might even overtake AK Anthony and be President of India soon, as reward.

THIS SHOULD BE STOPPED AT ALL COSTS.

Kerala man sells wife for 15000 to buy drinks

Kochi: A man, who allegedly sold his wife for Rs 15,000 in Kerala's Kasaragod district to foot his liquor bills, has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

The arrest, two days ago, was on the basis of a complaint filed by the woman that her husband Prasad (29), a rubber tapper, had allegedly sold her to his close friend Manoj, also a rubber tapper, in January this year, they said.

He was later produced before a court and remanded to 14 days judicial custody. The woman had filed her complaint before the Hosdurg First Class Magistrate court following which the police had been directed to register a case and enquire.

The case was registered last month, Hosdurg Deputy SP Josy Cherian said. The woman, hailing from Choyyankod in northern Kasaragod district, had stated that the two men used to often consume liqour in their thatched house and she was allegedly raped after the money changed hands.

Police said they have no evidence about the money being paid by the second accused. Manoj, who is now absconding.

Manoj had been traced to Kollam by using the tower signals from his mobile, but he managed to give them the slip, police said. Kerala tops the list of states with the highest rate in per capita consumption of alcohol.

WOMAN TECHIE ASSAULTED BY MORAL POLICE IN KOCHI

Woman techie alleges assault by moral police
Story Dated: Tuesday, June 21, 2011 17:58 hrs IST

Kochi: A woman techie returning from work was assaulted at Kakkanad here on Sunday night but police failed to take action on time.

Thasni Banu who works in IT company near Info Park, Kakkanad was returning after her shift when she was approached a group of people who showered abuses on her and assaulted her.

Thasni who was with a friend on a bike was slapped in the face by the men, according to her complaint. According to Thasni her assaulters were playing moral police and warned that the culture in Kochi is not the same as in Bangalore.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has now sought report from the city police regarding the incident.

Why do working women feel unsafe in Kerala?
1. Thank you for highlighting this news item on TV as well. 2. The culprits were drunk. If they had found the lady alone with no male escort, they would have taken her away and raped her somewhere. 3. The Police refused to register her complaint. If she had run into the Police Station alone at that time, it might have been the Police raping her, instead of the drunken goons. 4. The lady has a history of fighting NDF-Police earlier. She deserves an Award for bravery.

NOBODY IN KERALA EVEN TO BEG

Beggary on the wane in Kerala: Study
T.K. Devasia
14 June 2011
TRIVANDRUM - Beggary, once regarded as a huge social problem in the southern Indian state of Kerala, is on the wane.

A study by the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) in the three cities of the state found a drastic fall in the number of people seeking alms on the streets. The beggars who were once seen everywhere have become a rare sight now.

A few who were traced by the study team in the cities of Trivandrum, Cochin and Calicut were seen in better pastures with a paradigm shift in their dress, behaviour and modus operandi of begging.

As many as 65 per cent of the beggars were found in religious places, where arms are given as part of the religious ceremony. The beggars have found the religious places a safe haven since there they get not only money but also food and shelter.

“Nobody questions them or disturb them from begging. One cannot demarcate between a beggar and a religious devotee. Being a religious place they are safe and they use this place”, said the study report.

Interestingly, the study team could also spot able bodied and employed people among beggars at the religious places. One such person was a regular employee of the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. He had taken to begging by taking long leave from his office.

Dinesh Bhaskaran, regional director of the KSSM, said many people from the middle class were attracted to begging as they could easily earn Rs300 to Rs500 a day without doing any work. To earn this they need only to sit in one place for a few hours.

Another interesting finding of the study is that 41 per cent of the beggars seen in the cities were non-Keralites from outside the state. About 39 per cent of the beggars resorted to begging under the shade of religion.

Only nine per cent of the beggars had disability and 8 per cent mental and chronic illness that pushed many to begging earlier. Sixteen per cent of the beggars were in the field due to old age. Poverty pushed another 16 per cent to begging.

Professional beggars, who once dominated the field, constituted only six per cent now. The study attributes the decline in the number of beggars to enforcement of anti-begging laws, frequent raids by municipal corporation authorities, and intervention by agencies such as ‘Childline’.

The strong steps taken by the Railway Protection Force and the State police to check the activities of the begging mafia in the wake of many incidents of trapping children as well as the free rice made available to the poor in Tamil Nadu also brought down the number beggars coming form other states. If the declining trend continues, Kerala may soon become a state free of beggar menace.

what of the begging mafia? it is big business in kerala.

ENDOSULFAN CAMPAIGN - A HOAX ON KERALITES

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/channels/nation/south/vs-seeks-cms%E2%80%99-support-endosulfan-ban-836

This is only a paid and sponsored campaign by some rival company that manufactures costlier pesticides. Shame on all that are taken in by it!
The people of Kerala are being taken for a media ride again, as with the Manchium, goat farms swindles, and the false rosy publicity about the Smart City and other cities.

Disaster happened in Kasargode only because the Plantation Corporation owned by the government, kept on spraying the pesticide indiscriminately from the sky from helicopters, for decades together. Why they did so is clear; they acted at the behest of the helicopter leasers. This is/was an act of biological warfare by the State against its own citizens. PEOPLE WILL SUFFER IF IT IS MERE TALCUM POWDER THAT YOU SPRAY DOWN DAY IN DAY OUT FROM THE SKIES; NOT TO SPEAK OF PESTICIDES.
The pesticide is produced mostly by the public sector HIL and not by any private company alone. Some private interests are trying to dislodge this PSU from the field. For once, Pawar is being fair!

The media, politicians and the paid intellectuals are all acting under vicious influence. That the power to ban a pesticide is within the State government's jurisdiction from 2006, is very pertinent; and calls the lie on the LDF.
The unpleasant truth has to be told! NEVERTHELESS, ALL CHEMICAL FERTILISERS AND PESTICIDES ARE TO BE SHUNNED.

KERALA MUST BEGIN RADIATION TOURISM

Right from the 1950s, scientists have identified the seashores of Kerala as one of the greatest hot spots of background radiation on Earth. Subsequent surveys have established that Karunagapalli taluk of Kollam district has the highest background radiation in the world. Around 750 new cancer cases are registered every year from the 12 panchayaths around Karunagapalli. The most concentrated deposits of radioactive Monazites are found along the 55 km stretch of coast from Neendakara in Kollam district to Purakkad in Alappuzha district.

It is a pity that popular administrations have not bothered to raise the issue in international forums or seek help from agencies like the WHO to tackle this risk. The 55 kilometre stretch should be declared as a radioactive risky area forthwith. Government employees working there should demand and be given special risk allowances.

Pending such initiatives, Kerala government can immediately publish the area as the world’s only radiation tourism spot and try to sell it to foreigners.

In Kerala, they don't throw shoes!

In Kerala, they do not throw Chappals!

Throwing Chappals is the in-thing in India now. We are a great people for imitating others.
In Kerala however, this ['throwing'] has been a usual procedure during strikes and Bandhs which they have daily.

As usual, the CPM showed the way. For the past 40 years, striking or agitating CPM guys have thrown things at non-participants.

They do not throw shoes [few wear shoes] or chappals though, because both are costly. Instead, they throw human excreta on the enemies. Striking government employees and teachers use nothing else, because they are educated, perhaps.

A few years ago, a member of the State Human Rights Commission took some action against some CPM civil servants and woke up one morning to find his entire house painted with human excreta. The Police refused to collect the material evidence and the investigations were a non-starter.

During Election time now, CPM cadres rough up journalists that they do not like, everywhere. So far, the journos have been protesting it by holding protest marches. Since 'throwing' is more effective, they might soon turn to it to protest. One hopes Kerala media men would not use the favourite Kerala material to throw at politicians.

Perhaps, they should. They are the 'model state' that the rest of India looks up to.

Kerala LDF Goes Islamic

Left moots pension for Madrassa teachers to please Muslims

Daily Pioneer: Kozhikode: 22 Feb 2009

The CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala are planning some quick pre-poll measures to regain the trust of the minorities, especially Muslims, which has been affected of late by moves like the one by the Law Reforms Commission which has suggested strict controls on polygamy.

Local Administration Minister Paloli Muhammad Kutty, who had headed a panel for studying the possibilities of implementing the Sachar Committee recommendations in Kerala, announced on Saturday that the Government wanted to implement a programme for providing a handsome pension to those who retired as full-time Madrassa teachers.

At a function organized here to announce the formation of a welfare fund for the Madrassa teachers, Paloli said the plan was to give a sum of at least Rs 4,000 a month as pension to those who had completed at least ten years' service as full-time Madrassa teachers.

He also said that the Government was also considering to institute 5,000 scholarships for students from the minority community. There was also a plan to provide Rs 1,000 towards hostel fee for minority students in the higher education sector. Centres would be started for imparting training to minority candidates for preparing for civil service examinations, he said.

The Paloli-headed committee appointed to study the ways to implement the Sachar Committee recommendations in Kerala had in February 2008 last suggested that all Muslim children below poverty line should be given all the educational concessions presently enjoyed by those in the scheduled tribes. The committee's report had said special scholarships of up to Rs 2,000 should be given to these children on the basis of an income ceiling.

The report had also asked for a hike in the grant for children living in orphanages (Yateem Khanas) from the present Rs 175 to Rs 250 per month and for increasing this by Rs 25 every year. The LDF Government, disregarding the serious concerns and criticisms raised by leading political parties and community organizations in the State, had on April 30 last decided to implement the report of the Paloli committee. Various organizations had complained that the CPI(M) effort to implement the report was part of its efforts to win the Muslim vote-bank even by jeopardizing the religious harmony in the State.

The report had recommended creation of a Muslim Development Corporation, establishment of an Arabic university and more government schools in Muslim majority areas, etc. The committee also recommended constitution of minority cells in the district level. It also suggested starting of more educational institutions in the Government or aided sector in places with higher density of Muslim population.

Paloli's new announcements have come just when several Muslim outfits, including Jama'at-e-Islami and the Sunni sect led by Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliar, have indicated that they could not support the Left in the coming elections. Jama'at-e-Islami's Kerala Amir T Arifali had recently said that they might reconsider their association with the CPI(M)-led LDF.
=============================================

To pay a monthly pension of Rs.4000/- each to about one lakh Madrassa teachers is an abuse of public funds.
These Madrassa teachers, unlike all other segments of pensioners in the country, are to be allowed pension after a mere 10 years of service. A large number of the pensioners would thus be in their 30s and would henceforth be free to spread Jihad on a government pension. The quantum of pension [Rs. 4000/-] is higher than what even most government employees would receive after 30 years of service. The annual burden to the exchequer would be around 500 crores. This in a State with a mere Rs 30000 crore Budget!
The Madrassa teachers are without any specified academic qualifications. Many of them are even illiterate. They are not appointed on the basis of any reasonable standards. There are no recognised or approved track trails of their service either. That many of them are responsible for all the communal tension in the State is known to all. They are merely teachers of Islam and not of benefit to the general society. In the absence of any such pension scheme to priests and religion teachers of other communities, the government move is extremely partisan. Before long, pension would be demanded by Christian priests and preachers also.
That Communists have always been responsible for much of the religious divide in Kerala, beginning with their creation of the Moslem Malappuram district, is beyond dispute. In West Bengal, they drive out Taslima Nasrins or imprison Statesman editors to appease Moslems. If the move is not opposed and force backed, a dangerous trend of communal appeasement and misuse of government funds to catch votes would be further impressed upon styles of administration in the State for times to come.

A Nun`s Autobiography: Sex And Lies In Convent

http://www.javno.com/en-world/a-nuns-autobiography--sex-and-lies-in-convent_236131
February 20, 2009
Sister Jesme, a nun in the Indian state of Kerali, wrote an autobiography called “Amen”, in which she openly wrote about sexual abuse behind the doors of convents. She and other nuns were abused by priests in the convent.

The autobiography had to wait until the nun withdrew from the convent in question, so that it could be published, however, even then, the Church severely criticised it. According to the media, the Church even offered money to the author so that the publication might be stopped. Furthermore, the Church tried to discredit the nun, calling her mentally ill.

- When a woman is molested, sexually harassed, will she speak out? Only one out of a thousand will speak out. So think of nuns! They will never speak out. They fear that their nun hood will be lost – sister Jesme, the author said.

The first edition disappeared from bookshelves in an instant. The second edition followed, which was also sold-out, and now the third edition hit the shelves.

- Thirty-three years cannot be penned down in 180 pages but there are points the I want to make about the capitation fee, the quarrels that happen within the church, about the homo-sexuality, the hetero-sexuality – sister Jesme.

However, the resistance was great and former colleagues at the convent disagree with Jesme. One of the sisters told Jesme she would sit in a corner and pray for all of her books to be burned so that not a single person reads a copy.

telegraph.co.uk
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/india/4733272/Indian-nun-claims-sex-is-rife-within-Catholic-Church.html
Indian nun claims sex is rife within Catholic Church
An Indian nun has stunned the Catholic Church with a confessional autobiography claiming widespread sexual abuse and bullying within its cloisters.
Bookshops throughout India's Christian communities in Kerala have already sold out of Amen, the autobiography of Sister Jesme, who has alleged that priests and nuns not only broke their vows of celibacy with each other but regularly forced novices to have sex with them.

The Catholic Church in India is mired in a series of sexual controversies, and has only just begun to recover from the dismissal of a senior bishop who "adopted" an attractive 26-year-old female companion as his "daughter".

The book by the former nun reveals how as a young novice she was propositioned in the confession box by a priest who cited biblical references to "divine kisses". Later she was cornered by a lesbian nun at a college where they were teaching. "She would come to my bed in the night and do lewd acts and I could not stop her," she claims.

When she was sent to Bangalore to stay with a priest known for his piety, he lectured her about the need for "physical love" and later assaulted her.

"Back in his room, he tried to fondle me and when I resisted, got up and asked angrily if I had seen a man. When I said no, he stripped himself, ejaculated and forced me to strip," she writes.

According to Sister Jesme, senior church officials twice tried to admit her into rehabilitation clinics and claimed she had mental problems after she complained about the scale of sexual abuse and the number of illicit affairs between nuns and priests.

Dr Paul Thelekkat, a spokesman for the Syro-Malabar Catholic church said he had some sympathy for sister Jesme, and respected her freedom to express her views, but he believed her claims were trivial. "How far what she says is well-founded I can't say, but the issues are not very serious. We're living with human beings in a community and she should realise this is part of human life," he told the Daily Telegraph.

Kerala's Communist Government Gives Crores-worth of Free Land to Churches in pre-Election Dole

Malayala Manorama daily has reported on 1st February that the Kerala Government has completed procedures to allot free land to private schools and colleges run by Christian and Moslem religious institutions in the State. Some of these are already housed in government land that has been technically leased to them. The lease amounts have not been paid by these institutions for decades and the arrears come to hundreds of crores of Rupees. No government dares to recover the dues out of fear of minority community protests.

One funny thing about these minority educational institutions is that they are on government land, and are built with money collected from the public. The annual maintenance, providing of all study utilities and salary payment of all staff members are done by the government. However, appointment of all staff and admission of students is a prerogative of the Churches and Moslem Mahals, who are recognised as owners of the institutions. A College teacher’s job involves a bribe of around Rs 20-25 lakhs to the owners; a school teacher pays Rs 10 lakhs. Medical College admissions are 15 lakhs to 30 lakhs. Additional privileges as are allowed to minority institutions are also enjoyed.

Land is an unavailable commodity in small Kerala and inability to obtain or attach required land is the main cause of retrogression of its industrialisation. Projects like the Smart City ran into trouble because of squabbles about unequal sharing of spoils from the allotment of free government land. Average cost of land in Kerala is Rs. 10000/- per Cent [40m2 ]. In towns and cities, and around institutions and projects, there is no determinable limit to land cost. At District Head Quarters, average is around one crore Rupees per Cent [40m2 ].

KP Rajendran, Kerala Revenue minister, has told the Malayala Manorama that St.Thomas College, St.Mary’s College, Christ College, St.Albert’s College, Ponnani Moslem Education Service College would be the initial beneficiaries. Other institutions will be accommodated as soon as they submit applications. 10 to 25 acres are expected to be thus allotted to each institution. An acre of land [an acre is 100 cents] in the vicinity of these colleges is valued at a minimum of 10 to 15 crores of Rupees.

Kerala has an LDF ministry and a CPM Education minister. In return for the land, the minority communities would support LDF candidates from the minority communities at the Parliamentary elections. Adequate financial compensation and accommodation through admissions and appointments are also offered by the education mafia.

Nuns and Priests to belly-hit lawyers

Five nuns, two priests enrol as advocates
TIMES OF INDIA 21 May 2006

KOCHI: After winning the legal battle to practise law, ">five nuns and two priests in Kerala on Sunday enroled as advocates.

The Kerala High Court had in November permitted priests and nuns to enrol as advocates and practise law while a division bench on March 21 upheld the single judge's order, saying that a complete ban on their entry into the profession would be "illegal".

For Sister Tina Jose, one of the petitioners, and the other nuns and priests, the donning of robes of the legal profession was a dream come true.

The Bar Council of India had objected to their enrolment, claiming that priesthood and nunhood were professions.

However, rejecting this contention, the division bench held that nunhood and priesthood were not professions and that being part of the "clergy -- be it a priest or nun -- would not bar their entry into the profession as created under the Bar Council rules".

The bench had observed that several nuns and priests were engaged in different professions like teaching and nursing. "A complete ban of entry into the legal profession to a class of clergymen will be wholly illegal". Being a priest or nun was not a disqualification for appointment to a government or a private job, the court had pointed out.

At least 300 other new entrants to the profession, including newly elected MLA from Kanjirapally and former IAS officer Alphonse Kannamthanam, were among those who enroled as lawyers at the function.

Suresh Kumar and his Suspension!

http://english.mathrubhumi.com/news.php?id=9667&cat=1&sub=14&subit=0

I am surprised that people are making this much noise about Suresh Kumar’s being suspended from service. I presume that it is all only because of the politics involved. I am sure that Suresh Kumar himself welcomes the relieving period of enforced leisure. Anybody that has a care for himself would only welcome suspension from service as long as they pay you living money or Subsistence Pay, for not working. This on the assumption that you belong to a service where you do not have the system of daily 'collection' and sharing of it!

You do not have to get up in the morning; rush to the office and face the bullies there. You can sit idle, sleep whenever you feel like it, watch TV, browse, chat, read, listen to music, watch all the movies….! No phone calls, no visitors. It is heaven on earth.

I myself keep myself at the Computer or TV till 8 in the morning; then sleep till midday. Wife has gone to school, son to the college. Food is ready on the dining table. I eat and go back to the Net or do whatever I feel like doing. I am totally the master of my life.

People – they keep away from you once you are suspended - ask me if I do not feel humiliated, ashamed and prestige-lost. I tell them no. Why should I? It is not as if I have been suspended because I raped or stole. They did not like an Email that I sent; they felt insecure, belittled, inferior and threatened. They suspended me. Now they have to manufacture charges and go the full way with the proceedings. And in the end, they would end up paying me damages. That money would be my gift to my family.

You can imagine the relief and floating feeling of lack of care that one feels in my circumstances. I shall have to refer to the Thesaurus to describe it. If someone were to ask Suresh Kumar, I am sure that he would express similar thoughts.

"Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing."

Bullying Lessons:3
To all offices:
Why junior staff members are afraid to speak out against senior colleagues
Why they try to remain bystanders, onlookers, witnesses, eyewitnesses, spectators, and turncoats

"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it”: Martin Luther King
──────────────────────
In most bullying situations, the target of bullying finds himself/herself isolated and alone. Work colleagues, who may formerly have been friendly and supportive, melt away and the target is left feeling like a pariah and an outcast.
There are many reasons why colleagues at work fail to come to the aid of a fellow worker that is being bullied. These include:
• the bully has gone round the department and warned everybody off, often using implied threats of reorganisation (redundancy), restructuring (redundancy) or even disciplinary action against anyone who helps the target
• the bully creates a climate of fear where everybody is afraid to speak out or take action
• fear of reprisal
• very few people, when put to the test, have the integrity and moral courage to stand up against bullying, harassment, corruption etc; the target is selected often because he does have this moral courage; most people will pass by on the other side, only targets have the integrity to be good Samaritans
• in the presence of an aggressor, particularly a devious, manipulative, charming one, many people prefer to act more like sheep than humans
• many bystanders are only mediocre at their jobs and their sense of vulnerability through fear of being targeted is thus greater
• understanding about/of bullying is low and many people still hold outdated views such as "why don't you stand up for yourself?" [answer - because the moment you assert your right not to be bullied, the bully moves into phase two of the bullying process which is elimination] and "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"
• work colleagues often have no understanding or experience of bullying, manipulation, psychological violence, etc
• some bystanders are able to employ the "I didn't know what to do" excuse to abdicate and deny their responsibility; bystanders who use this excuse make no effort to find out
• you'll be surprised to realise how many work colleagues have brown noses which you hadn't noticed before or which you'd put down to sunburn
• some of your workmates will turn out to be turncoats
• denial is everywhere
• in environments where the bullying is entrenched, it's regarded as "normal" behaviour
• work mates think that if they keep their heads down, their mouths shut and pretend nothing is happening then it won't happen to them [wrong - their turn will come eventually]
• work colleagues have their own share of problems and they're not going to risk losing their job for someone else
• your workmates are not people you have chosen to be with and they may not be friends - they just happen to be there
• work is an institution, not a family or community; your co-workers have no legal obligation towards you
• bullying goes on over a long period of time, the target eventually becomes obsessive about the bullying, work colleagues start to experience compassion-fatigue and turn off; if the bullying continues, colleagues may become aggressive and actively join in with the mobbing, victimising and scape-goating as the pack mentality takes over
• unlike assault and harassment, bullying is subtle and comprises hundreds, perhaps thousands, of incidents which out of context and in isolation are trivial - thus bystanders can't see the full picture
• bullies exert power and control by a combination of selectively withholding information and spreading disinformation, therefore everyone has a distorted picture - of only what the bully wants them to see
• bullying often goes on behind closed doors so no-one sees it or recognises it
• bullying may be carried out in front of people who are unable to recognise the tactics of bullying, especially the use of guilt and sarcasm
• the bully goes to great lengths to undermine their target and portray them as a poor performer - work colleagues are encouraged to regard the target as a threat to the organisation
• the bully is a smooth, slimy, sycophantic individual who excels at deception using a combination of compulsive lying, Jekyll and Hyde nature, manipulation, mimicry of normal behaviour, self-assuredness and charm
• bullies, especially female bullies, are masters of manipulation, and are fond of manipulating people through their emotions (eg: guilt); bullies see any form of vulnerability (eg: the need to pay the mortgage) as an opportunity for manipulation and exploitation
• your colleagues at work have vulnerabilities too
• bullies are adept at manipulating peoples' perceptions with intent to engender a negative view of the target in the minds of work colleagues, management and personnel - this is achieved through undermining, including the creation of doubts and suspicions and the sharing of false concerns
• bullies poison the atmosphere and actively poison people's minds against the target
• when close to being outwitted and exposed, the bully feigns victim-hood and turns the focus on themselves - another example of manipulating people through their emotion of guilt, eg: sympathy, feeling sorry
• most bystanders are hoodwinked by the bully's ruses for abdicating responsibility and evading accountability, eg: "that's all in the past, let's focus on the future", "what's in the past is no longer relevant", "you need to make a fresh start", and "forgive and forget, you've got to move on", etc.
• the bully encourages and manipulates bystanders to lie, act dishonourably and dishonestly, withhold information and spread misinformation
• the bully manipulates bystanders to punish the target for alleged infractions, ie the bystanders become instruments of harassment
• the bully is often able to bewitch one especially emotionally needy bystander into being their easily controlled spokesperson / advocate / supporter / denier
• the bully often forms an alliance with a colleague who has the same behaviour profile, thus increasing the levels of threat, fear and dysfunction
• the bully is able to charm and manipulate a number of bystanders to act as supporters, assistants, re-inforcers, appeasers, deniers, apologists and minimisers
• in an environment where aggression is dominant, good people become disempowered and disenfranchised
• many people do not have the emotional intelligence or behavioural maturity to understand bullying, let alone deal with it
• when there's conflict in the air, most people want to be on the winning side, or the side they think will survive
• some people gain gratification (a perverse feeling of satisfaction) from seeing others in distress and thus become complicit in the bullying
• a few sad people think that bullying is funny
• some observers regard behavioural responses that are reasonable and civilised as a sign of weakness rather than maturity
• many people lack critical thinking skills and analytical abilities and thus cannot see through the facade or the bully's mask of deceit
• apathy is rampant
• many employers are interested only in creating a workforce of corporate clones and drones so this is what employees are programmed to be
• the bully grooms bystanders, and the target, to believe the target deserves the treatment he is receiving
• when the target of bullying is off sick, the bully labels them as having a "mental health problem" and forbids staff to contact the person
• the bystanders see only the Dr Jekyll side of the bully, but only the target sees the Mr/Ms Hyde side; Dr Jekyll is sweet and charming, Mr/Ms Hyde is evil; Mr/Ms Hyde is the real person, Dr Jekyll is an act
• many workplaces undergo reorganisation every six months (or more) therefore there's never sufficient time for employees to gain an accurate picture of the bully
It's easy to see the parallels between the actions and inactions of workplace colleagues and how Hitler was able to co-opt so many of the German people into supporting him - those with the moral integrity to refuse were arrested, tortured and shot. Hitler was not the first dictator to eliminate anyone who objected. Rome created a great empire, not by having meetings, but by killing all those who opposed them. In the workplace, those who decline to support the bully are isolated, victimised, scapegoat-ed, have undue constraints and excessive workloads imposed, and are then subjected to disciplinary proceedings on trumped-up charges as a prelude to losing their job (as well as their career, livelihood and health). In very rare cases you may receive information from a bystander who wants to help but is afraid to do so publicly for fear of retribution - and fear of becoming the next target.
Bystanders can make a significant difference in the workplace (and in bullying situations in school); because bullies are cowards and if they sense that someone other than their target is going to expose them, they may slink away with their tail between their legs. However, bullies are extremely vindictive and will do everything in their power to destroy anyone who can see through their mask of deceit.

UNCULTURED INCOMPETENCE BY NGO UNION AND KERALA GOVERNMENT

Whenever the CPM comes to power in Kerala, the NGO Union rules the State. The ministers leave it totally to the Union to administer the State and formulate policies, frame rules and implement them. Every Left rule in the State has thus been responsible for excessive bureaucratisation of the society.

At best only mindless agitators, LDF ministers and legislators have always lacked that something which makes good administrators. The consequence is that they have always been like Alice in Wonderland with in the Secretariat. They lean heavily on the civil servants’ unions affiliated to their parties and look unto them to suggest each minor step that the administration would take. Ideally, it is the bureaucracy that should look up to the elected representatives for initiatives.
The wily bureaucrats in their turn ensure that systems and procedures are so formulated and amended that the Clerk reigns supreme in all matters, with officials’ tentacles gripping each nut and screw in people’s lives. It has been seen that towards the end of each LDf rule, bureaucratic enthusiasm to suck the last drop of blood from the citizen opens up full throttle.

The Unions ensure that the intereference of the State is embedded more and more in each area of civil life. This is done to ensure perpetual bureaucratic supremacy even when the other Front comes to power. The majority of the bureaucracy is always the NGO Union men. Absolute mindlessness, with only motives of bribe deciding things, is seen in all projects and laws for the future during any CPM rule.

Feebleness of the mind by the NGO Union only caused the unnecessary and stupid controversy about the State government's ignoring the late Maj. Sandeep Unnikrishnan's bereaved family. The State ended up looking ridiculous and un-mannered. That the English media played up an innocent and usual Malayalam colloquialism used by the CM showed motivated media idiocy as well.

Had Maj. Sandeep's family been living in Kannur, his father would not have dared to give vent to his dissatisfaction in the way he did. CPM cadres of Kodiyeri would have set fire to the house after beating up the bereaved.
